Microsoft Licensing Scam
It has been reported by several of our clients, and suppliers, that there is a new telephone scam from a call centre. The caller says that they are from Microsoft and are responding to a fault reported by your machine. The caller claims that a rogue file has been downloaded which was causing the computer to run slower. The caller has been asking clients to click on the start button and open the "run" command. Clients were then asked to type in "eventvwr", this brings up a window called Event Viewer. The caller then runs through the error log with clients, picking one out saying it was caused as their Windows licence has expired - it is at this point the caller will try and get you to pay for a new licence.
